The Goats

The Mar Goat Herd was founded in 1988 and consists of British Toggenburg and British Saanen dairy goats. These animals, particularly the Toggenburgs, are lively, affectionate creatures with a wicked sense of fun. Far from gorging everything they see, goats are very fastidious in their eating habits, and in order to accommodate their tastes we give them a balanced feed specially prepared by Heygate and Sons Limited of Northampton. This feed includes a delicious smelling selection of herbs. In all seasons the goats are free to be outside during the day, though during spells of severe weather and at night they are housed. Outside they graze our clover rich pastures to which no chemical fertilisers or pesticides have been applied. The goats also enjoy browsing the hedges for leaves, twigs, herbs and fruits.
